Laura Linney, best known for portraying strong, but weak characters, is among of the most well-known American actors of our times. Born to a renowned playwright's father but being raised by a single mother, who earned her living by working as a nurse. She began to take an interest in theater while spending summers with her father, eventually studying acting, initially in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. After just two short years following graduation, she launched her Broadway-based career. Following that, she made her first appearance in the world of film and television. Since then she has been appearing in a variety of films, TV shows and stage performances. She has been awarded numerous prizes in her long career. They include four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. In spite of numerous awards the theatre is still her primary passion and she continues to perform both on screen and on stage.
